MEDIA RELEASE  - Monday October 18th, 2010

Only weeks away from the season proper starting.  In earnest lots of hard work, brainwaves and mostly hard earned cash has been expended in the off season.

The biggest news for the start of the season is that SOUTHSIDE ENGINE CENTRE have secured naming rights to the SSRC this season and all cars will be sporting the SOUTHSIDE logo on the leading edge of their roof this year.

Several new cars are to make their debut in the next few weeks.  Dusty Higgs will hope to be a fast learner changing from the ROCKET leaf sprung car to the z link combination in his SWEET chassis utilising a Chev engine built by well known DRAIME in the USA.  Dusty has left nothing to chance this year in his quest to win the SSRC Summer Series.  Everything is brand new down to his race suit.

Big Bad Berts SWEET is on target to make its debut opening night at the Motorplex.  Vosbergen will be on the more aggressive four bar suspension system which suits the veterans no holds barred attitude.  Bert is also following the trend to run an engine built in America; a FORD Rhyne engine, which is reported to have impressive dyno results on a local dyno run by Chastie.

The K Trans sponsored team of Frank Does will be well prepared for the summer of speedway with a new chassis, yet another SWEET.  This team turn out one of the neatest, smart looking cars every time that they arrive at a racetrack - a hallmark of SPEARCHUCKA and any car he is involved with.

The 43 Giancola team are up for their second season aboard the DOMINATOR car which is a big worry for every other competitor.  A spare engine has been purchased along with complete new winters rear end axle to axle.  And with a little of Tonys engineering brilliance, Marc doing the steering and a great pit crew Dom, Dave, Kevin, Shae and the coffee man Cos there wont be much that will faze this well oiled team.

Young superman Dustin has been busy with a full rebuild of the trusty ROCKET.  A bigger power plant has been inserted between the rails.  A full containment seat to secure the pilot is fitted; a new body rap, bling wheel covers and a healthy dose of enthusiasm should be enough to give the old stagers a hurry up at the pointy end of the field.

At a recent test session in Mt Barker Dustin and Dusty had a trouble free run with the Sweet domiciled Garry Higgs showing strong form early.  The 82 car will be easy for fans to spot with the familiar blue and black colours sporting the menacing hulk graphics on the side and welcome support from Pigdeon Portables.

Michael Nash is ready to go with a new car this season staying with the Ford theme in a GT Falcon.  NASH racing has great support from CENTRE FORD and it’s great to see high profile dealerships recognising the value of super sedans.

Continuing the variation that SUPERS in WA enjoy is the Nissan 300zx of Tristan Green.  This car has undergone a complete transition since landing in the hands of the talented mechanic from Beckenham.  The fabled Detomaso Pantera of Big Bad Berts has been undergoing more development and has shown proven reliability at recent meetings.  It should appear on the Figs night meeting in the hands of Jamie Oldfield.  Peter Lyalls rapid Rotary RX 8 is always fast and in the action and is determined to give the V8s a run for their money.

At last the season is upon us all.  The shed dribble and bravado is about to be put to the test.  The hard work and dedication by the committee and promotions person Tina Lizzi is about to be out in public. Well done team!
