Hibernation is nearly complete  - Thursday 8th, September 2011

Super Sedan fans your annual winter hibernation is nearly complete.  Just as the sun follows the moon so the new season is nearly upon us.  All the shed talk and stories are to be put to rest and the hard work of developing and fine tuning this year’s package begins.

The 2011 / 2012 season looks to be a right cracker as well.  Next year’s National Title for Super Sedans will be held in WA in line with the ASCF rotational system.  The anticipation and hype is already mounting adding to this already exciting summer of competition.

Southside Engine Centre has retained the naming rights for this year’s Summer Series which has evolved into a very sought after and prestigious title to claim.

The WASCF Super Sedan State Title has been awarded to Kalgoorlie International Speedway which will be run on Saturday and Sunday the 3rd and 4th of March.  A big line up of eastern states stars is expected to contest this event.

This season is the first year that we have hosted the Carline Mufflers NSSS.  The first round is to be held in Kalgoorlie the 7th March, Albany’s Atwell Park Speedway Friday the 9th March and Perth Motorplex has been given the prestige of hosting the finale on the 10th March.  What a way to wrap this spectacular series at the nation’s best speedway facility.  Add to the regular season highlights such as the Silver and Gold Cup at the Motorplex.  Bill Gibbings Memorial in Albany over Easter we have a full program.

Several new cars and combinations will make an appearance at the commencement of this year’s racing.

State Champ Marc Giancola has switched to Ford power this year.  Not the only big change in the Giancola camp.  The livery has totally changed in ownership with his long term sponsor Statewide Access and has been replaced by Onsite Access.  The 43 car will be on the money from the first green flag of the season.

Dusty Higgs has stripped the 81 car and sent it back to Matt Pascoe (Sweet chassis) for a full rebuild after the soft rollover he had in Albany at Easter.  A new Chev power plant was sourced from famed engine builder Draime out of USA, with the current Aussie dollar helping make these decisions easier.

A new car headed the way of son Dustin Higgs also from the Sweet stable and powered by a DRAIME Chev engine.  With the experience gained from the Higgs crew last season with running a swing arm combination, expect the young fella to be knocking on the door.

Kodee Brown car 77 and former WA Champion has a new mount from the Dominator Company, arguably the best chassis available on the Aussie market.  Kodee is another to opt for the Ford power purchasing two Roush Yates engines. Kodee needs to be commended on his many podiums and placing’s last year using outdated and inferior equipment.

Peter Lyall has spared no expense towards his summer campaign with a brand new Dominator RX 8 with a potent Rotary prepped by Rotomotion of Maddington.  Don’t feel sorry for Pete only having a Rotary.  With the weight break given and the capability of his new engine, expect the 14 car to be mixing it with the big boys this year.

Big Bad Bert saddles up yet again with yet another different car and combination.  The Pantera is gone never to be seen again.  Unfortunately last season was interrupted by a prostrate cancer problem.  This only has made the 5 times State Champ even more hungry and obsessed with winning.  Still staying with aluminium V6 this time it’s a Chev with no computers, turbos or fuel injection.  The engine was originally built by Draime in the USA but sourced through Rocket chassis company USA.  This car will no doubt be spectacular and raise a few eyebrows.

Rick Musarra has purchased the Sweet car from former Aussie champ Jamie McHugh and is a tough competitor.  Also from Kalgoorlie area (Sugar) Ray Leonard has purchased the ex Dustin Higgs Rocket which has been refurbished.

Along with the strong fleet of cars in WA this looks to be a bumper season for the premier sedan division.  Ten meetings are scheduled for the Motorplex and several country shows including Bunbury, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Carnarvon.   Hats off to the SSRC Committee for ensuring the sedan fans are well catered for this year.

Stay tuned for more information as it comes to hand.
